We're so grateful for Kodama Forest School. It's a highlight of our 3-year-old daughter's week...a special opportunity for her to explore her world, in the dirt, on rocks and fallen trees, and yes, in muddy puddles. I'm inspired and positively challenged by the respect that Devon and team have for the Kodama kids. While vigilantly minding their safety, Devon and team give the kids space to demonstrate and cultivate their awareness, discretion, and responsibility. And I've learned through Kodama that changing dirty clothes is very worthwhile effort, in support of my daughter's experience of uninhibited joy in the natural world." - Kodama Forest School Parent
My kids adore Devon and her crew, and the simple, nature-based adventures they go on with her. My 2.5 year old asks to 'go with Devon' at random times during the week (including once when he saw a random pair of wool socks like the one she wears). They come home tired and dirty and full of interesting ideas about their environment." - Kodama Forest School Parent
My 5-year-old daughter attended Kodama Forest Camp over Thanksgiving break for 3 full days of outdoor adventures with Devon and her staff. I was blown away with Devon's thoughtful approach to the camp experience each day. My daughter grew to love each day more. She would come home completely dirty, but with more smiles and stories to share than any day at preschool. I loved the small group setting of the camp, the student Interns, and Devon herself, who is obviously very skilled at working with children in ways that introduce them to nature and learning in creative and empowering ways. Weeks after the camp had ended, I was having a conversation with my daughter about how important it is to keep trying (in this case reading), even when it feels really difficult and maybe even frustrating. To my surprise, she responded to me by recalling her experience at 'Forest Camp' where she was scared to climb up and over a large tree trunk of a fallen tree in the path, but that she kept trying anyway, and eventually made it over. She was so proud of that story that she had drawn a picture of it afterwards, but I was almost more impressed that she recalled the experience weeks later and was able to relate it to another challenge in her life. I'm truly grateful for this program and look forward to many more adventures with the camp in the years to come!" - Kodama Forest School Parent
